Plot:

Legendary car thief/booster Randall "Memphis" Raines (Nicolas Cage) retired from the criminal life in 1995. Now five years later after Auto Thieft in the greater Los Angeles/Long Beach district went down by 47%, his brother, Kip Raines (Giovanni Ribisi) takes over "the job", employed by British car broker Raymond Calitri. When one night Kip messes up stealing some cars, Memphis gets called back to the life he got out of. His most impossible mission: Steal 50 exotic cars all over Los Angeles and Long Beach and deliver them to Long Beach Harbor, Pier 14 by 8:00am, Friday morning, on the button, or watch Calitri kill Kip. And so Memphis, with the help of longtime friend Otto Halliwell (Robert Duvall) reassembles his old crew which includes sexy Sara "Sway" Wayland" (Academy award-winner Angelina Jolie), a renegade white-haired mechanic by day, bartender by night, to pull off the biggest mission ever. The only problem is the LAPD G.R.A.B. (Governor's Regional Auto Bureau) is on the lookout and Dt. Roland Castlebeck (Delroy Lindo) and his partner are keeping close eyes on Memphis and his team. Can the team pull this assignment off and collect $200,000 in cash? Will Kip finally realize that car boosting is dangerous? And can Memphis escape Castlebeck and the cops? It's a long shot, but they may have a chance. Cut to the chase.

Sebenernya film ini hampir gue lupakan. Tapi karena iseng-iseng mulai ngumpulin mobil-mobilan replika, gue jadi teringet film ini. Film yang didasari dari film berjudul sama rilisan tahun 1974 memang terkenal dengan adegan pencurian mobil-mobil keren dan klasik dan terutama adegan kebut-kebutan mengejar mobil ‘sakral’, Shelby Cobra GT-500 1967, yang dinamai Eleanor. Gara-gara film ini, gue jadi kepincut banget dengan Eleanor.

Dramatisasi dari film aslinya ini, memang bikin film ini lebih asyik ditonton. Ngga kurang deh jagonya dari Bruckheimer memproduseri film ini sehingga pencurian mobil jadi terlihat cool. Dominic Sena berperan membuat film ini jadi terlihat realistis, khususnya dalam adegan kejar-kejaran. Sekalipun adegan kebut-kebutan sudah ‘tersedia’ dalam film aslinya, Mr. Sena cukup mampu membuat adegan yang sama menjadi semakin seru.

Satu fakta yang membuat film ini semakin cool adalah ‘casting’ Shelby Cobra GT-500 1967 yang klasik sebagai Eleanor, sekalipun dalam versi orisinilnya adalah Ford Mach 1973 yang ‘memerankan’ Eleanor.

Buat yang suka hiburan yang menampilkan coolness dan kebut-kebutan sepertinya ngga bakalan kecewa dengan film ini. Didukung dengan aktor-aktor yang terkenal, tentunya membuat film ini semakin enak diliat. Dan sentuhan sedikit drama keluarga dan brotherhood membuat film ini punya sedikit alur cerita yang bisa membungkus drama sampai ending-nya.

Tapi seperti yang gue tulis diawal, film ini tergolong gampang terlupakan. Hanya satu hal yang bisa membuat film ini lebih diingat dibanding film-film sejenisnya adalah Shelby Cobra GT-500 1967 a.k.a Eleanor.
